Chapter Thirty-Three

Sunday, December 15th, 2052, 04:07 OWO Server Time

We got back to camp just in time to prepare breakfast for the legion. Nothing fancy this time, grilled pork chops, scrambled eggs, and fried potatoes with onions and peppers. Word and the smells spread rapidly, and I had a long line of hungry legionnaires waiting for me by the time I was done. I made sure Archer got heaping portions of everything, which he gratefully wolfed down. About midway through dishing out breakfast, I earned the achievement I’d been working on.

Achievement Earned: You Are The Top Chef – You have prepared and served multiple delicious meals in both small and large quantities! – You’ve earned the Chef Talent!

New Talent: Chef – You have the gift of creating culinary delights out of raw ingredients. Food you prepare tastes better, is more satisfying, and delivers special benefits to the diner. Discover or create new recipes to find new buffs your meals can grant. The strength and duration of the buffs your meals provide depends on the level of your Craft (Cooking) skill. – New Skill Earned: Craft (Cooking).

Craft (Cooking) – Charisma-based – Proficiency Level 1.

“Finally!” My seemingly random outburst as I read the notification caught the legionnaire I was dishing up at that moment off guard and he jumped back a startled step. “Sorry, not you.”

“I told you! Switching up your preparations would speed things up.” Sarah sounded smug as the confused legionnaire held out his tin camp plate for me to dish onto before hurrying away. “You kept making basically the same tired stew when you were on the road and barely earning any credit toward the achievement.”

“I didn’t exactly have a lot of options,” I murmured under my breath while serving the next soldier. “We were roughing it and running from monsters all day. That didn’t leave me with a ton of free time.”

After the last soldier was served, I let the legion’s actual cook—who had enjoyed my contributions to the camp’s bellies perhaps even more than the rank and file—handle the cleanup. Archer and I retreated into the privacy of Ellomund’s Wondrous Pavilion, which, for the moment, we still had all to ourselves. Opening my Inventory screen, I started spreading our rewards from the night’s adventures out on the table.

I had a rough idea of what I’d gathered during the day, so I decided to open my Rare Item Chest from my latest achievement spree. Within, I found a magic ring. I already had the Ring of the Night Stalker on one finger, but at my current level, I could wear two magic rings at a time. At Level 20, I’d be able to wear two additional rings, then two more every 20 levels after until I capped out at 10 rings. I checked the item’s description and grinned.

Bittleby’s Ring of Enchantment Transference – Enchanted by Bittleby Bittlemore – Description: This ring of braided copper, silver, and gold is set with small sapphires, rubies, and diamonds. – Properties: While wearing
